About josephtailor
By Marcel Hombergen - close personal friend
Very seldom in my life have I met an artist more enthusiastic and passionate
as josephtailor®. He plays with a variety of media in which rhythm,
light-play, the music in forms and repetition, build with pliers, screws,
hammers and anvil. A sturdy design, both contemporary and timeless. Timeless
because of the tried and tested history of the materials: leather, rings,
wood, lead, paper clay, recycled rest materials, beads, fabric. Contemporary
because he is making things happen in a way that has not been done before.
Why is art art? What is primitive art? I can not answer it, but suddenly
I thought: “He is an artist. And a damned good one too.”
His creations are usually quite time-consuming in the making but are never
so complicated they cannot be easily understood and used productively. Versatility
is an understatement with josephtailor; workspace and living space (Where
is the difference?) are always very personally styled His necklaces and
chainmail made of sometimes thousands of rings that are almost all opened
and then closed by hand using nothing more than a pair of pliers. Would
be work fit for a monk. Because of the sturdy character of the, sometimes,
large rings it is wearable by both sexes. What is the style of josephtailor®?
Arts and crafts of the new millennium perhaps
It would not be right to put him in particular style; He uses elements of
art deco, minimalism, contemporary gothic design, fashion & jewellery
(To show off the beauty of the materials in wearable objects), and architecture
by creating magnificently sparkling wall sculptures. And that beauty does
not lose any of its flair because they are made of cold metal. On the contrary;
By the time josephtailor® is finished with a piece it is just begging
to be touched and play with, and doing so is often quite relaxing.
The new interpretation of old crafts josephtailor® personally designs
are shown on this site. They are not only beautiful and impressive if you
bear in mind it is all done by one person, but he also shows us how he uses
the materials in a new way, therefore showing us something new how it has
become art. When I met him about 10 year ago he was the born handyman. During
the last 10 years he has become the charming artist for special moments
at home or out.
There are people driven by huge creative urge for whom being idle is their
horror.
Fortunately for us, he is willing to share that energy through his creations.
